Basahin sa FilipinoWhat is the difference between an exchange and a wallet?
| Exchange | Your own wallet | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A company where you buy and sell crypto | An app or device where you hold crypto yourself |
| Who controls the coins | The company holds them for you | Only you |
| If you forget your password | Support can usually help | Without your seed phrase, the coins are gone |
| Main risk | The company is hacked or fails | You lose your seed phrase or get tricked |
What are hot and cold wallets?
| Hot wallet | Cold wallet | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An app on your phone or computer | A small device kept offline |
| Good for | Small amounts you use often | Larger amounts you keep long term |
| Risk | Online, so it can be hacked | Can be lost or broken (the seed phrase restores it) |
Like a wallet versus a safe: keep spending money in the wallet and savings in the safe.
What is a seed phrase, and how do I protect it?
A seed phrase is a list of 12 or 24 words that is the master key to a wallet. Anyone who has it owns your coins.
- Write it on paper, and keep it somewhere safe at home.
- Never type it into a website, never photograph it, never store it in your phone’s notes or email.
- Never tell anyone, not even "support". No real company will ever ask for it.
What is two-factor sign-in (2FA)?
A second check after your password, usually a 6-digit code from an app on your phone. Even if someone steals your password, they still cannot get in without your phone.
Prefer an authenticator app over text messages; texts can be redirected by scammers.
How do I avoid fake links and costly mistakes?
- 1Type the exchange’s address yourself or use a bookmark; do not click links in messages or ads.
- 2Check the address letter by letter before signing in.
- 3Before sending a large amount, send a small test, like $5, and check it arrived.
- 4Then send the rest. Crypto sent to a wrong address usually cannot be recovered.
What are the main dos and don’ts?
| Do | Don’t |
|---|---|
| Write your seed phrase on paper | Share it, photograph it or type it anywhere |
| Turn on two-factor sign-in | Reuse the same password everywhere |
| Send a small test amount first | Send a large amount to a new address in one go |
| Keep long-term savings in a cold wallet | Keep everything on one exchange |
| Practise on Tradeground first | Learn with money you cannot afford to lose |
