What does volatile mean?

A volatile price jumps around a lot, and fast. A price with low volatility moves calmly.

DayCalm coinVolatile coin
Mon$100$100
Tue$101$125
Wed$99$80
Thu$102$115
Fri$100$100

Both end the week at $100, but the volatile one was worth anywhere from $80 to $125 on the way. Needing to sell on Wednesday would have cost you $20.

How much do things usually move in a day?

Rough, typical ranges for a normal day:

WhatTypical daily move$100 could be tomorrow
Savings accountabout 0%$100
Big company stockabout 1–2%$98 – $102
Bitcoinabout 2–4%$96 – $104
Small or new coins10–30% or more$70 – $130

Why does it matter?

  • It works both ways: big jumps up are big chances to win, and big drops are big chances to lose.
  • It tests your nerves: many people panic and sell in a dip, locking in a loss that might have recovered.
  • It is dangerous with borrowed money: with 10× leverage, one normal 10% wobble can wipe you out.

How do I spot a volatile coin on Tradeground?

Look atVolatile when
Day rangeThere is a wide gap between the low and the high
Today %The numbers are big, like −15% or +22%
24h line and chartThe line is a spiky zig-zag instead of a gentle curve

What should a beginner do about it?

  1. 1Put smaller amounts into very volatile coins, so one bad day cannot hurt much.
  2. 2Expect the price to swing, and do not panic at the first dip.
  3. 3Decide before you buy when you would sell, up and down.
